Australia Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482)
With this visa, a skilled worker can enter Australia and work for up to four years in the occupation of their choice for their authorized sponsor, or company.
An employee must have a normal business sponsoring employer and have applied for a nomination with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) on behalf of the sponsoring applicant before they can apply for a Subclass 482 visa.
Employers who are already familiar with one another (a normal business sponsor) may submit an employee nomination. If the nomination is accepted, the applicant has six months to submit a visa application.
Employers who are not currently eligible sponsors should apply to be so before submitting nomination forms from their staff. Applications for both sponsorship and nomination may be submitted concurrently.
Becoming a business sponsor and nominating an employee entails numerous responsibilities for an employer. Employers must comply with the Department of Immigration's requirements to be considered as an eligible sponsor. These requirements include but are not limited to the length of business tenure, essential job requirements, training standards, verification that no Australian citizens or permanent residents are available for the positions, salary offered to the nominating employee, and many other requirements.

- Nominated under a skilled profession authorized by the Australian Government
- Have the necessary skills to assume a role nominated by an authorized standard business sponsor

Application Cost
- Application cost (for employer) for eligible sponsor (Standard business sponsor): AUD 420
- Employer nomination application fee: AUD 330 Visa
- For the Temporary Skills Shortage visa (subclass 482 Short Term Stream), the application fee is AUD1,330 and for the Medium-Term & Labour Agreement Stream, it is AUD2,770. The same fee will be charged for each additional applicant who is over the age of 18, and an additional fee will be incurred for each applicant who is under the age of 18, depending on the stream for which you are applying.

In March 2018, the Australian government introduced a new work visa known as the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa. The Subclass 457 Visa was replaced by this. The TSS Visa is a temporary visa that allows its bearer to live and work in Australia. This is all the while continuing to work full-time for the sponsoring employer in the designated role. The Home Affairs Department in Australia advises that the TSS Visa applications will be processed in the following order:
- Applications filed by accredited Sponsors
- Applications filed for positions in regional Australia
- Applications filed under the stream Labour Agreement
- All other remaining applications
