significant outcome of the Jobs and Skills Summit held by the Australian government in September 2022 was the declaration of an extension of the post-study employment rights for international graduates with specific degrees in areas where there is a documented talent need for two years.

Post-study work rights for international graduates will increase from:

• Two years to four years for select Bachelor’s Degrees.
• Three years to five years for select Master’s Degrees.
• Four years to six years for all Doctoral Degrees.

(Note this is applicable only for suitable qualifications relevant to the list of careers and qualifications considered- includes IT/Engineering/Nursing/Medical/Teaching related, refer to the list in the below link, Ph.D. do not have any restrictions).

For qualifying graduates, this extension will be added to the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485). Alternatively, it will allow certain students who now possess a TGV to apply for a new visa to extend their stay by an extra two years.

After taking the working group's recommendations into account, the government has released additional information about the initiative, including an indicative list of professions and qualifying skills. On July 1, 2023, the measure will go into effect.

Regional: This will not affect the qualification to apply for the Post-Study Work Stream for graduates who have studied, worked, and lived in a regional area. In addition to the aforesaid longer time, they will still receive a one- to two-year extension.

Australia Graduate Temporary Visa Program Details:

Students who apply and are granted the Graduate Temporary Visa may reside and work in Australia for a maximum of 18 months to 4 years. extended to 24 months for visas issued starting on December 1, 2021, temporarily. This program issues two main types of visas; applicants select the one that best suits their needs. The three categories are:

• Graduate Work Visa: Available to students who applied for and received a skill assessment in the designated occupation listed on the Skilled Occupations List and who had a student visa for six months before applying for this visa.
• Graduate Post-Study Visa – For students who have completed a bachelor's degree or above, there is the Graduate Post-Study Visa. This visa does not need your occupation to be on the Skilled Occupations List; instead, it is based solely on your educational background.

As long as your visa is valid, you can study in Australia, travel within and outside of the country, and live and work anywhere in Australia with your family. Usually, the validity of the visa lasts between 18 months and 4 years. extended to 24 months for visas issued starting on December 1, 2021, on a temporary basis

Eligibility for Australia Skilled Migration Program:

The purpose of the Australia Graduate Temporary (Subclass 485) Visa is to evaluate applicants' educational backgrounds. It's a terrific way to become a permanent resident of Australia and is intended to keep talented people in the country. The primary requirements for eligibility are:

• Your age (between 18-50 years of age only)
• Australian educational credentials
• Information about the 2 years or more spent studying in Australia
• English language skills
• If your occupation is on the Skilled Occupations List
• Your work experience
• Health and character assessment

Eligible qualifications:

• By matching relevant qualifications to in-demand occupations on the Skills Priority List, the list of eligible qualifications was created.
• To adapt to changes in the labour market and manage emerging risks, the lists of jobs and qualifications will be tracked and evaluated annually.
• Future modifications to the criteria list are not supposed to negatively affect students who have enrolled in a qualifying program of study that has since been taken off the list.
• The extension will be available to students who graduate with a qualification that was accepted at the beginning of their studies, at the end of their studies, or both.
